Il Target

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises – which represent over 99% of all Italian businesses – are increasingly victims of cyber attacks, are often unable to defend themselves, and are not always aware of the cyber risks they face daily. These businesses were, more than any others, affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced a rapid adoption of digital tools and approaches to ensure business continuity, exposing them to ever-increasing cyber risks.

In 2022 in Italy there were 1,141 serious cyber attacks, meaning those with a systemic impact across different aspects of society, politics, economy and geopolitics: specifically, there was an 8.4% increase compared to the first half of 2021, for an overall average of 190 attacks per month, with a peak of 225 attacks in March 2022, the highest value ever recorded.

MicroCyber targets Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as well as Public Administrations in the 8 regions of Southern Italy: Abruzzo, Calabria, Sicily, Puglia, Sardinia, Campania, Basilicata and Molise.

From this, the need emerges for MSMEs to adapt quickly and effectively in terms of digital evolution, due to the new requirements imposed by the market and the post-Covid 19 scenario.

The problems

  • less awareness, compared to larger companies, of the risks that digitalization entails in terms of cybersecurity;
  • financial capacity often inadequate to cover the necessary investments in CS, both in terms of staff training and in terms of acquiring adequate technological tools.
